Description – Analysis of the Type, Style & Iconography :
The sgraffito on the “Peperuda” kindergarten covers the north and northwest facade. It consists of three plaster layers (red, ocher and white) applied on a very thin bedding layer. It has a heterogeneous foundation of hollow bricks, whose holes face the sgraffito. The sgraffito also covers the the concrete portion of the roof, which protrudes 2-3 cm from the facade. The final white layer of plaster is very thin and missing in spots. There is an unclear signature on the lower left portion of the central wall.
-
Signature/Artist’s Initials: Unclear
-
Condition:
The sgraffito is in a state of disrepair. The layers of plaster are seperating and the finishing layer is collapsing and, in some areas, has disappeared entirely. The damage is particularly evident by the socle, where only portions of the bedding layer remain. The fragments of colourful plaster on the ground in front of the sgraffito are a testament to its degredation. -
