Description – Analysis of the Type, Style & Iconography :
Two sgraffiti adorn the facades of the dead walls of “Prof. Lybomir Miletich” Primary School N. 148 and the “Cesar Valleio” Language High School N. 157.” Both works are constructed with concrete panels, contributing to the challenging condition of the sgraffiti. The figural compositions were created with three layers of plaster, sequentially layered from dark to light (black, ochre, and white).

Condition:
Both sgrafitti are extremely damaged, particularly the one on the gym’s facade. The plaster layers are peeling, seperating, and exfoliating. There is a lack of adhesion with the bedding layers and a number of large missing fragments. The concrete panels underlying the sgraffiti are the primary reason for its poor condition — particularly at the points where the panels connect. Located in close proximity to the sports ground behind the football goal, the sgraffito on the gym wall has consistently endured impacts from balls, resulting in additional damage. -
Conservation / Restoration:
-
Preservation Regimes according to Bulgaria’s Cultural Heritage Act:
In order to better protect the sgraffiti, it is necessary to: undergo a surface and structural stabilization of the plaster layers; fill in the gaps; and create a protective barrier for the sgraffito next to the sports ground. In order to better present this work to the public, it is necessary to: provide for its regular maintenance and security; install lights for illumination; and add a plaque with the artist, title and year.
