    17. Description – Analysis of the Type, Style & Iconography :
Sgraffito on the facade of “Vasil Levski” High School depicting various scenes from Bulgarian history. The sgraffito is composed of two layers: the initial layer has a burnt umber colour with a distinctly coarse texture, while the upper layer exhibits a meticulously applied beige-white color with a fine surface. The work was created in 3-4 stages with a clear division of the giornata, indicated by the appearance of horizontal lines across the work.

    18. Signature/Artist’s Initials:

    19. Condition:
The sgraffito is in a relatively good state of preservation. However, the upper layer is partially damaged and there is some layer seperation in the lower half of the work. A security camera, installed on the lower left corner of the sgraffito, has not caused structural damage but impacts the overall apperance of the work. The newly-applied white paint surrounding the sgraffito is inappropriate.

    20. Conservation / Restoration:

    21. Preservation Regimes according to Bulgaria’s Cultural Heritage Act:
In order to better preserve the work, it is important to: reinforce and stabalize the plaster layers, and reconstruct the missing parts. In order to better present this work to the public, it is necessary to: provide for its regular maintenance and security; install lights for illumination; change the paint surrounding the artwork to a more appropriate colour, and add a plaque with the artist, title, and year.
